International alumnus addresses European Commission on EU-India education policy

Pavan Kumar Sriram, an International alumnus of Swansea University and PhD student at the University of Southampton has addressed a European Commission meeting of Senior Officials in Brussels.

Director-General of DG Education and Culture, Mr. Jan Truszczyński, hosted the meeting on behalf of the European Commission. First, Secretary Vibha Puri Das of the Indian Ministry of Human Resources Development led the Indian delegation on this occasion. Senior officials from Indian Ministry of Human Resources Development and Higher Education Institutions active in EU-India cooperation were invited to discuss EU-India policy on education and improve student mobility.

Pavan, the only alumnus invited as a guest speaker, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity and great honour to be personally invited to a senior level meeting where my contribution could have an impact on EU-India policy and help to develop links between higher education institutions.”

His presentation about the practical experiences and challenges of international students was widely well received by the meeting delegates. Now he is working on promoting the Erasmus Mundus program through the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and University grants commission India (UGC).

The European commission and Indian Education Ministry welcomed the success of Indian students and scholars who have received scholarships under Erasmus Mundus programme and the Erasmus Mundus external cooperation window (India Strand).
